The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and were in contact with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
