Donald Trump's Policies Present a Risk to Civilization.

The internal and external strategies – from the attempted coup previously to latest moves and warnings – weaken both national and global legal frameworks. The implications are broader.

These actions jeopardize the fundamental meaning of what we mean by.

A guiding principle of civilized society is to prevent the dominant from preying upon and using the less powerful. Otherwise, we risk being locked in a state of nature where might makes right prevails.

This principle is central of the Declaration and Constitution. It’s also the core of the modern framework of international relations championed by the US, which stresses multilateralism, popular sovereignty, individual liberties, and the supremacy of law.

Yet, it is a delicate principle, easily violated by those who would exploit their authority. Upholding it requires that the influential have the moral fortitude to refrain from seeking immediate gains, and that the rest of us demand responsibility if they don't.

Unchecked strength does not equal right. It leads to uncertainty, disruption, and conflict.

Every time people or corporations or countries that are wealthier and stronger prey upon those that are weaker, the structure of society unravels. If such aggression are allowed to continue, the fabric unravels. Allowing it to persist, the world can plunge into disorder and conflict. It has happened before.

Today, we live in a international landscape marked by extreme inequality. Influence and wealth are more concentrated than in modern history. This creates conditions for the privileged to take advantage of the weaker because they perceive themselves as above the law.

The resources of a small group of billionaires is staggering. The influence of global industrial giants spans numerous countries. Artificial intelligence is likely to further concentrate wealth and power further. The military might of the major powers is without parallel in recorded history.

Enabled by a compliant faction and a sympathetic judicial body, the executive office has been made into the supreme and answerable-to-none instrument of the state in the modern era.

Combine these factors and you see the looming crisis.

A direct line ties past breaches of norms to present-day provocations. Each were premised on the overconfidence of omnipotence.

There is parallel dynamics in other global contexts: in territorial invasions, in coercive diplomacy, and in the rampant monopolization by massive conglomerates.

But, raw power does not create right. It fosters instability, revolution, and bloodshed.

History shows that frameworks designed to check the influential also shield them. Without such constraints, their insatiable demands for greater influence and riches in time cause their collapse – taking down their enterprises, countries, or domains. And threaten global conflict.

This kind of disregard for rules will haunt America and the global community – and the very idea of civilization – for years to come.
