News has broken that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
The actors are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. It is believed their appearance will take the form of a brief glimpse ahead, as the original saga concluded with their characters living in peace.
This marks the sixth installment in the global Hunger Games franchise.
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a recent book by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed the majority of the previous films in the series.
The film's story are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
