Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
